Fall, 2022 - Family History Research Resources

Lynn Baker, Genealogist, presented to Good Neighbors of Park Slope 3 sessions in Fall 2022 on Zoom on how to get started with family history research.  He provided us with many useful materials to help us get started.  Here is some information about Lynn's background:

Lynn Baker retired from US Naval Reserves (29 years) and IBM Corporation (37 years). He runs an active Genealogy Club on Seabrook Island / Kiawah Island and Kiawah River Estates, South Carolina called “Digging into Roots Together”. He has been doing genealogy since 1980 and loves helping others. He is a frequent speaker at the National Society Daughters of American Revolution, Summerville Genealogy Club, Charleston Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society and the Charleston Family History Center.

Spring 2021 - Getting Started in Researching Family History Together:
Using Online Records from New York Public Library 

Carol Jeffery, GNPS member, is enthusiastic about family history research and will share the bits and pieces of her limited experience in this vast area. Interested members will form a family history research group. Initially, NYPL introductory materials will be used to guide our research. Members will support each other in using resources and finding answers to their family history questions.  

NYPL research librarians are also available to respond to emailed questions. Because records and classes are still temporarily available on line, there has never been a better time to use these NYPL family history resources.  

The group will meet every other week for 6 sessions. By the end of the first meeting, each member will select 1 or 2 questions to research. We will share our success and challenges. Finally, we will identify individual goals and discuss possible future directions.
