Volunteer to Help Make Storytelling Magic!
Join us for a meaningful volunteering and community-building opportunity where you can help to inspire New York City students to tell their stories! Classes from NYC schools across all five boroughs visit our center in Park Slope for field trips to create imaginative tales about fantastic characters like giant fruit monsters putting on an island festival, an evil octopus who leads a double life, and beyond! Anything is possible during an 826NYC storytelling field trip. And you can help young authors bring their stories to life.
Join us on Tuesday, December 2nd at 10am to 12:30pm. Our workshops will be held at our center in Park Slope (372 5th Ave).
What are Write Together Field Trips at 826NYC?
Teachers from across New York City bring their classes to our 826NYC center in Park Slope, Brooklyn for a highly interactive two-hour writing workshop. Students collaborate on building characters, the world in which they live, and the major events that may unfold. By the end of the workshop, the young writers walk away as published authors with their completed books in hand!
Our field trip workshops typically take place on Monday through Thursday at 10:00am to 12:30pm in Park Slope. Learn more about how you can help create storytelling magic!
What Roles Do Volunteers Play?
Volunteers play extremely important roles, some of which include:
- Taking notes as students engage in group brainstorming, as well as typing out their stories
- Helping students brainstorm and facilitate collaborative storytelling in small groups
- Illustrating 1-3 pages that show the main characters and the action that takes place in the stories
- Encouraging students to engage in the group discussions, supporting them as they write their own unique endings to their books, and making sure their books are put together and properly bound.
